I-Group
- On Sunday there is a new start time for ALL I-group participants; classes discussing portfolios begin at 10:00 a.m. 1st year participants will be introduced to portfolios, and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year participants will have a chance to share ideas and get insight and direction about their portfolio.
- Course 32, “Classroom and Laboratory Organization and Management”, has been revised for 2008. To better serve our Industry and Instructors, this course has changed to “Teaching and Managing in a Technical Laboratory.” The focal point of this new course is preparing Instructors to create laboratory learning environments and instructional programs that simulate a “real-life” work environment and help apprentices develop critical skills needed for workplace success. All 4th year curriculums are revised and will be delivered in a new bound format for 2008. There have been some minor changes to Course 41, “Discussion Methods”, and Course 40, “Implementing Individualized Instruction”, has been deleted from the 4th year curriculum and replaced by Course 42, “Creating an Active Training Environment.” This new course teaches students how to apply adult learning principles to the NJATC curriculum materials and teaches students about the instructional design process. Students will also have the opportunity to learn how to effectively design instructional strategies for various training situations.
- All 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year participants will have a pre-NTI assignment to complete before arriving at NTI. These assignments can be downloaded from the NJATC website, www.njatc.org, under the NTI tab at the top of the page. For questions or additional help please contact Melissa Parsley at 865-380-9044.

Electrical Contractor (“EC”) Group
NJATC and NECA Announce New “EC Group” at NTI
For the past 18 years, the NJATC has conducted the electrical industry’s finest National Training Institute (NTI) at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Over the years, NTI has grown to become a reliable source for the best Instructor development program and technical training courses in the electrical industry. This year, the NJATC and NECA are proud to announce that a new “EC Group” (Electrical Contractor) is being added to the NTI program offerings. The “EC Group” is a separate group designed especially for electrical contractors and their key personnel. Classes and presentations specifically discussing business opportunities in the electrical industry will be offered to this special group. Award-winning NJATC Training Partners will host the majority of the presentations and courses.
According to NJATC Executive Director, Michael Callanan, this joint effort between the NJATC and NECA addresses a critical void that has been overlooked for too long. “For years we focused exclusively on technical training,” says Callanan. “The new “EC Group” enables us to address business development issues and technical training. NJATC Training Partners will continue to offer the necessary technical training for our industry’s Instructors, but will also provide additional presentations designed especially for our NECA contractors and their staff.” The NJATC is working with NECA National and the Management Education Institute to prepare a meeting agenda guaranteed to address significant business development opportunities for our Contractors. The 19th Annual NTI begins Saturday, August 2, 2008, with the annual NTI Trade Show, featuring over 100 of our industry’s Training Partners. The Trade Show concludes Sunday morning and the opening ceremony and welcoming reception begin Sunday evening. “EC Group” participants are encouraged to arrive on Saturday for the Trade Show. The “EC Group” opening presentation begins Sunday, August 3, 2008, at 12:30 p.m., and concludes at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
Registration information, a detailed list of “EC Group” presentations, and an agenda will be mailed to all NECA Contractors by April 15, 2008. Contractors will register for the “EC Group” through NECA’s website. Contractors should not use the NJATC site to register for this new group. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the 19th Annual NTI.
